Hidden within our community is a dark, parallel world, a locked away society. Increasing violence, over population, rampant drug use and gang warfare are part of daily life. We are not referring to a local ally, abonded buildings, lower income projects we are speaking about Americas' Prison Population !

I Am My Brother's Keeper has a spiritual and moral obligation to do something about the incarceration problems in South Florida.  We start by reaching out to at-risk youth.  We have developed a working reentry program that has tremendous results and focuses on the whole family not just the imprisoned.

We strive to keep every released inmate we encounter from returning to prison by personally working with him or her and thier family on a daily basis.  Find out what you can do to help by contacting us today.

Disturbing Truths:

* There are over 2 million people incarcerated in federal, state, and county facilities. More than 6 million people are under state supervision in the form of parole or probation.

* America faces an epic problem of re-entry.  The number of ex-offenders reentering their communities increased fourfold in the past two decades. Two out of every three released prisoners will be rearrested and one in two will return to prison within three years of release.

Children of incarcerated parents have increased risk of anxiety, depression, aggression, truancy, attention disorders and poor scholastic performance.

* States are spending more money on prisons than education. Over the course of the last 20 years, the amount of money spent on prisons was increased by 570% while that spent on elementary and secondary education was increased by only 33%.

Prisons cost taxpayers more than $32 billion a year. Every year that an inmate spends in prison costs $22,000. A sentence of five years for a $300 theft costs the public more than $100,000. The cost of a life term avergaes $1.5 million.
